How are you guys doing with your NaNoWriMo novel?  We are almost coming to the end of it. In today’s blog, I will talk about how to build your story from beginning to end. Likewise, it will help you to grab the audience's attention towards your story. Following, I will share steps that will help you to build your story in a manner that your audience won't feel left or lost out of the story.

Step 1 (title):

Have a title that will grab the audience's attention. Likewise, have a title relevant to the story. Having a good title will grab your audience attention towards your story. Also, the audience will be excited to see what your story is going to be about.

Step 2 (listing characters):

List all the characters and give brief information about what their roles are in the story. This will help the audience see each character's role before they start reading the novel.

Step 3 (setting):

Talk about where the story takes place in that one moment, you are going to talk about. This will help the audience to see where and how the event you are talking about is looking and taking place. For example,

Scene: 1

INT  Coffee Shop   Day

Scene: The scene is a part that shows where the event of the story is taking place. You should have more than one scene in the story.

INT: this means internal, which means the story is taking place "inside" of the event. In this example, the story is taking place inside the coffee shop.

EXT: This is not placed in the example. EXT means external. This is the same as INT. However, in this case, if your story is taking place “outside” of the event, you will write EXT. For instance, if the event is taking place outside of the Coffee shop, you will write EXT instead of INT.

Coffee Shop: a place where the event is happening.

Day: This means the event is taking place at day. If the event is happening at night, you will write night in the place of the day.

Step 4 ( the beginning):

This is where you start writing your story. One of the tips to begin your story is to start your story with an ending point (the climax). Then, come back to the story, from the beginning as to how the story leads to the climax and keep going from there. This will create suspense in your audience that how the story leads to its climax.

Step 5 (Elements in the story):

These elements are very important. This is the place where your story holds on. The elements are:

  •  Dialogue  (have as many dialogues as you can).

  • Details and descriptions (describe everything is detailed)

  • Expression ( talk about the character's expression while delivering the dialogues or listening to it. For example,

John (with pleased): “I am waiting for someone. I will order in a little bit.”

Waiter (nodded his head): “yes sir.”

These elements are significant because without them your story can’t hold on and your audience will lose their interest.

Step 6 (Twist):

Have a twist in your story which will turn the story all around. For example, in the beginning, you show your audience that the two characters are having an affair. As a twist, you will show that those two characters were married to different people and were having a marital affair with each other. Having a twist will help to have a spice to a story.

Step 7 (The End):

This is the last and important part of the story. In this, you will have your climax. You will also end your story with either happy, sad, tragic, or with another twist. If you decide to have another series of your story, you might want to end your story with a twist. This way, your reader will have the suspense and want to read the next series.

These steps are an important part of any type of story. These will help the story be organized, show professionalism, be creative, and be in a better flow.  Additionally, it will help to grab and hold the audience's attention.
