Whoo-hoo! NaNoWriMo is ending. You are writing either your last sentence or are totally done with your novel. If you are working on it, it’s totally fine. Writing a novel is creative work and creativity needs time. Now it’s time for the final part, which is revising your novel. Revising can be tough sometimes because you get confused about what to add more and delete in the story, etc. In today’s blog, I will share some tips on how to revise your novel. I learn these tips from my experience as a writer.

  1. Don’t revise your novel on the day you finish. Because at that time, your memory is fresh and you know what you have written. So, by going back at that time, you won’t see the mistakes you made in it. Take at least one to two days off from revising it.

  2. When you are revising your novel, mark the sentence or word where you want to edit. This will help you to organize your work and see where you have to do which editing. For instance,

  • Underline - the sentence you want to add.

  • Circle - grammar mistakes.

  • Highlight - the sentence you want to look at again.

  • You can use different colors for different editing.

  • Writers can color code their notes or may use the suggestion tools in Google Docs or in Microsoft Word as other options.

  1. Additionally, as you revise your work, read your work out loud. This will help you to see your mistakes effectively.

  2. After you are done with your revising, give it to someone else who can read your work. By someone else reading your work will help to see what the third person review/opinion is about your work.

These will help you in editing your work more efficiently. Also, it will help to organize your work. Revising your work will benefit you to improve your reading and writing skills. Likewise, it will allow you to be more creative in your work and mind. What do you do while revising your work? Comment down below!
