Authors using Social Media to promote their work!

Open your phone right now (unless you’re already on it haha) and count how many social media apps you have. One? Two? Three? More than that?! Well I only have two that I use almost everyday— Instagram and TikTok.

The United States has 302.35 million social media users as of January 2023. These users can absolutely make or break a creator's career, especially new authors on the rise. Promoting things online can be a tricky, but extremely useful tool that can lead to great success and profit.

Being an English Major, my social media feeds partially revolve around all things literature. In recent times, I’ve seen many authors promoting their works online; floating all around social media and garnering thousands upon millions of views, likes, shares, comments, and followers.

During the height of the pandemic, TikTok completely blew up! It became one of, if not the most, popular social media app today. Creators and influencers found their voices and audiences, forming close-knit communities that offer a surplus of support and attention. Small authors like Paula Lafferty and Chloe C. Peñaranda both used TikTok to widely promote their literary works and the long processes that lead up to their book releases. (Check out some of their videos using the links below!)

If you have an idea, a passion, or just like to joke around, social media can be just the thing you need to become a successful overnight sensation!
