Welcome!
Hello Friends! My name is Melissa Granada. I am currently an English writing major at Kean University. If all goes well (fingers crossed) I will be graduating by the end of the summer.
I am often asked why I decided to pick this major and people typically assume I love to write, write, write. They assume I sit down with a monocle discussing Shakespeare and correcting people’s grammar. Or at least that's what my friends and family think.
While that is surely a fun idea it does not sum up why I have chosen to major is English. One of my favorite things about being an english major is that it isn’t confined to one specific thing. Yes there is the writing and the reading as expected but, you learn so much more along the way. I have learned about world history, art, philosophy, romance, religion and even comedy.
If I had to choose my favorite classes I’d have to say that Creative Writing, British Literature and The History of Rhetoric in Writing take the cake.
Upon registering for summer classes I came upon an email about summer internships. To my surprise the English Department was offering summer internships. I immediately jumped at the opportunity. What better way to end my academic career than interning at my own school! I submitted my application, got accepted and here we are.
I will be the new blog writer for Kean University’s School of English Studies. I'm very excited to be representing the department as well as sharing all the cool events, opportunities and information happening over the summer! In addition I plan on sharing some fun and helpful tips for my fellow students. Stay Tuned!
